let them eat cake

Festival attending shortfilm

Animated shortfilm
Producer - Katrine Dolmer

‘Let Them Eat Cake’ is a short film I began working on as part of the ZeroSum.G series, however during production it became clear that the length wouldn’t fit for short-form content, so we molded it into an actual animated short-film. It is currently attending numerous festivals.

This movie came as a blend between many different inspirations - by borrowing the appearance Jeff Bezos, we explored the age-old classic example of supply-demand difficulties told from the perspective of a bakery that he runs in this fictional universe. He is still shrewd business man that we know him as, but his difficulties in running this bread-and-butter joint proves a bleak and tough challenge for his dreams of growth.

This angle blended well with the current trendy fervor for high-end bakery products that the bourgeois demands. A class of people whose whole lively hood is based off of an entirely unequal distribution of wealth and labor.

In a world where appearances cloak intricate truths and commerce waltzes with conscience, this visual odyssey beckons. Consumers, willfully ignorant of the atrocities that are committed in order to get the best products for the best price, will never let their own morals or common sense stop them from squeezing out the very last resources of our planet. This is the invisible sin that most in the western world have been forced to accustom themselves to in his or her own way.

class warfare retold as a modern fairy tale.
